Hotel restaurants a no no

I was reading about the recent demise of Nonni's Italian Restaurant in Concord and I'm not surprised. I had been to the other Nonni's in Hillsboro years ago and the experience had been an enjoyable one. I heard they were opening in Concord and thought this is gonna be good. Then, It became known that they would be opening at the Holiday Inn...ha...what? Can't you just open a stand alone restaurant like everyone else. Anyway, I went once and it was a horrible experience. But this got me thinking, Why does everyone think that opening a restaurant in a hotel is a good idea? The initial rumor was that the owner was going to open a Mexican Restaurant in Hillsboro and in hindsight probably would have made more sense. Then there was the disappearance of Harts in Manchester. The reason that I heard was that they are renovating the hotel and that Harts will return. We will see but I have my doubts. Another time I can remember paying something like $35 for spaghetti and meatballs at the Four Seasons Italian restaurant in Maui, Hawaii. It was okay but nothing spectacular.. You know what else really steams me...Crappy hotel breakfasts especially at a lot of hotels in larger cities. Usually a buffet of stuff that has been sitting for way too long...sign me up. And to top it off you're stuck with a really big bill for bad food. Nuff said, hotel restaurants are a no no.

No Ice Cream in the desert

It's been awhile since I've posted and for good reason. The holidays were very busy this year with the typical craziness and hair pulling that goes along with trying to buy my wife gifts. Needless to say, 90% of what I buy gets returned and I spend a couple of more months making up for the my poor decisions. Of course this has nothing to do with food but it answers the question of the lack of posts for awhile. And we have the typical discussions about moving to someplace warm after another frigid New Hampshire day. But the conversations always go back to food and especially ice cream. It is almost impossible to find good ice cream during the winter months and we dream about our favorite places and visiting for the first time. Needless to say my wife's mother loves Ice Cream as well and we received a call today that Hayward's Ice Cream in Nashua, NH would be opening on February 17th... Stop the presses, the drought will soon be over.

Ice Cream with Garlic Fries

It was another banner weekend for eating out over the weekend. On Friday we found ourselves on the North Shore again where we frequent a place that has the best pistachio ice cream I have ever had. Hodgies in Amesbury, MA is the place and I don't know how they make their ice cream so smooth and creamy but they do. By the way, there is another ice cream place in Stratham, New Hampshire called the "The Right Place" but it used to be a "Hodgies" until the name changed. Anyway, they have the same great ice cream here as well. Moving forward to Saturday... on to the Seafood Festival in Hampton Beach, NH as we have for the last couple of years. This year was a little bit different because we discovered a treat that we had never seen before. French fries that were covered with a garlic sauce and parmesan cheese. All I can say is we ate these very fast and fries don't get any better than this...Credit must go to Ronaldo's for serving up this tasty ...

Burn Baby Burn, Disco Breakfast Toast Inferno

For all you loyal readers I am back finally. Yes, it has been a while but now the focus is on breakfast. There is nothing like a hot cup of Java, bacon and eggs over medium. Oh! Did I I forget to mention the burned toast. It is almost like burned toast is a no no, every time I order it is never burned as much as I like. I'm talking so burned that you can smell it burning in the dining room. Okay, so you may be like what's the big deal with burned toast. Well, it has a delicious nice smokey flavor that can't be denied. It is also kind of a solute to my old man who used to get burned toast all the time along with"crispy bacon". Way back when when he worked on for the railroad in Manchester he would go to the Red Arrow Diner. All would be waiting for him when he arrived. Eggs bacon coffee and of course burned toast. Now that is service. So every time I go out to breakfast I say "burn it, as black as you can get it but it never comes out as burned...
