I was reading about the recent demise of Nonni's Italian Restaurant in Concord and I'm not surprised. I had been to the other Nonni's in Hillsboro years ago and the experience had been an enjoyable one. I heard they were opening in Concord and thought this is gonna be good. Then, It became known that they would be opening at the Holiday Inn...ha...what? Can't you just open a stand alone restaurant like everyone else. Anyway, I went once and it was a horrible experience. But this got me thinking, Why does everyone think that opening a restaurant in a hotel is a good idea? The initial rumor was that the owner was going to open a Mexican Restaurant in Hillsboro and in hindsight probably would have made more sense. Then there was the disappearance of Harts in Manchester. The reason that I heard was that they are renovating the hotel and that Harts will return. We will see but I have my doubts. Another time I can remember paying something like $35 for spaghetti and meatballs at the Four Seasons Italian restaurant in Maui, Hawaii. It was okay but nothing spectacular.. You know what else really steams me...Crappy hotel breakfasts especially at a lot of hotels in larger cities. Usually a buffet of stuff that has been sitting for way too long...sign me up. And to top it off you're stuck with a really big bill for bad food. Nuff said, hotel restaurants are a no no.
We recently discovered a great place for ice cream in Concord, New Hampshire. You could call us ice cream snobs because we only like the home made kind if you know what I mean? The place is called Granite State Candy and they have some of the best ice cream around. My personal favorite is "Moon Tracks" but they have many others. Anyway, our journey continues to find the best foods in New England and the world.
